I found the preliminary task very useful as I now know more
about why magazine’s editors have laid there front covers out the way they have
and why they have chosen certain aspects of the magazine. The preliminary task
also helped me to understand how to use InDesign so that when it comes to my
main coursework I should have fewer problems. I feel that my front cover and
contents page worked very well. I used different things such as cover lines and
plugs to give it a more professional look, also adding a bar code to make it
look more realistic. I did however find my contents page harder to do as to
make it look realistic the layout is crucial my first attempt looked almost
like a restaurant menu but once I had reconsidered certain fonts and changed
the layout of the picture I feel it looked better. By doing the preliminary
task I have also now gained a lot of ideas for what I want my actual coursework
magazine to look like, this should help with my research and planning as having
a basic understanding of magazines means that I know feel more confident of
what to do. If I was to do the preliminary task again I think I would do a bit
more research into contents page layouts and why they are laid out the way they
are so when it came to my contents page I had a better idea. I also would
perhaps have taken a photo with slightly brighter colours so to give me a wider
range of colours I could have used on my front cover.
